ACBO was founded in 1987, and provides Australian, New Zealand, and Asian optometrists with education and training in behavioural optometry.
ACBO is the peak body for Behavioural Optometrists in the Australasian region, with close to 400 members who are mostly in independent practice.
ACBO members have a special interest in children's vision, patients with learning difficulties, traumatic brain injury, binocular vision dysfunction, as well as those wishing to enhance their visual skills for sport.
ACBO members have the same qualifications as all other optometrists registered in Australia, and may also have additional qualifications such as Fellow of ACBO, COVD, or may have completed the Behavioural unit of the Masters of Optometry at UNSW. ACBO members have an obligation to attend Continuing Professional Development events specific to Behavioural Optometry, additional to that required to maintain their registration.
The Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists website provides a tool for finding optometrists who specialize in vision therapy within Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific Region. Use their "Find a Behavioural Optometrist" web page to find an optometrist near you in Australia, New Zealand, and the Asia-Pacific Region.
