James grew up suffering from amblyopia and strabismus. As an adult he decided to try and improve his own vision with technology. While building the first prototype of Vivid Vision he gained stereo vision and went on to start the company.

Manish left IBM to co-found the company in 2014. Experienced in both engineering and design, Manish leads development at Vivid Vision.

Before VV, Ben ran the Backus Lab at SUNY School of Optometry in NY. His work at the lab focused on understanding how binocular vision works. He uses his expertise to make sure our system is using the cutting edge of vision science.

The daughter of an optometrist, Kelin's been active in the profession since birth! Prior to VV, Kelin was Executive Director of the Optometric Extension Program Foundation. At Vivid Vision she manages industry relationships, partnerships, and marketing.

Julia is a qualified accountant with CPA Australia, with experience from JP Morgan, Australia & New Zealand Bank and Ameriprise Financial. Her role is to manage the company's finance and operations processes.

Senior Vision Scientist

Senior Research Engineer with 10+ years of experience developing complex hardware and software systems for research in 3D visual perception. Thad provides hands-on leadership of complex projects from concept through design, fabrication, to final implementation, backed by multi-disciplinary expertise.

Annette French, MD, PhD

Ranran (Annette) Li French, MD, PhD

Medical Director

Dr. French is a vision scientist and resident psychiatrist with expertise in visual perception, perceptual decision making, and systems neuroscience. She completed her PhD in Brain and Cognitive Sciences at the University of Rochester, where her research focused on depth perception during self-motion.

Ian holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from UC San Diego. He first joined Vivid Vision as a software engineering intern in 2019, where he worked on localization, documentation, and web applications for patient data tracking. He returned to the team in 2024 as a Junior Developer, contributing to the development of VR-based digital endpoints for pharma.

Chief Optometrist

Dr. Tran earned his Doctor of Optometry from Michigan College of Optometry and completed his residency in Vision Therapy and Rehabilitation at Southern College of Optometry. He served as Associate Clinical Professor at Salus University/PCO and Auxiliary Clinical Assistant Professor at Western University of Health Sciences, where he supervised and mentored optometry students.

Ai has 5 years of experience as an orthoptist in Japan including basic eye exams, helping prescription contact lenses or glasses, and training for children with amblyopia following Bachelor of medical technology.
