As part of our FAQ Friday series, our own vision therapist, Amina, shares her answer to a question we hear often from providers.  Amina is a Virtual Reality Vision Therapy Specialist here at Vivid Vision and is a certified Vision Therapist (COVT) through the College of Optometrists in Vision Development. Prior to working for Vivid Vision she worked at Hope Clinic where she used many tools, including Vivid Vision, to help her patients achieve vision therapy success.

One of the most frequent questions I hear from our providers is, "what kind of patient can benefit from Vivid Vision Home?" My answer: EVERYONE!

Even before coming on board at Vivid Vision, I found that every vision therapy patient could benefit from using Vivid Vision Home for a variety of reasons.

The Vivid Vision Home software is extremely versatile and can be used to improve vergence, stereopsis, hand-eye coordination, as well as visual processing.  If a patient has strabismus or amblyopia, the provider can set specific anti-suppression games to break suppression. If a patient has convergence insufficiency, the provider can set specific vergence games to build vergence facility. If a patient needs to work on eye-hand coordination, the provider can set specific games to work on that too! Whatever the binocular vision disorder, Vivid Vision Home can help!

When we, the vision therapists, think of what to send home with a patient, often the bulk of our patients get similar activities. The Marsden ball is a great example of a task that is often sent home with patients. The Marsden ball is, simply, a ball on a string. But, it is used to work a variety of visual skills. The most common skill probably being smooth pursuit movements of one eye and both eyes together.

Vision therapists are already sending patients home with vision therapy activities, so why not add Vivid Vision Home to those activities?

A major difference between a Marsden ball and Vivid Vision Home - despite the obvious - is the ability of the therapist or optometrist to directly monitor the patient’s performance on the home activities. They can then modify the activities or settings based on the patient’s actual performance in real time. In this way, Vivid Vision Home can be modified to fit the patient’s needs and goals. No more waiting until the next therapy session to find out if the patient has done their homework.

Vivid Vision Home works a variety of visual skills and, even better, it offers the patient a more modern solution to home therapy. We all know patients are more likely to succeed when compliance is high with home therapy. What better way to gain an increase in patient compliance than with the most advanced vision therapy tool in the world?
